Back to the Big Apple

It has been almost 25 years since I traveled with two other members of the magazine staff for a New York City themed issue in fall 1997. We featured three alumni working at Jumbo Pictures Inc. on the front cover along with cutouts of “Brand Spanking New Doug” and his best nonhuman friend, Porkchop. Three other stories of alumni making their mark in the Big Apple were part of our coverage. After finishing our interviews, we were blessed to spend a day touring, even going to the top of the then Twin Towers. It was a rewarding adventure for this country boy.

Fast forward to January 2022 as we literally cover the annual New Year’s trip to New York City in this issue. Writer Luke Humphrey was more than willing to take on the city with seven groups consisting of more than 100 students and professors. After experiencing the trip as a student, he returned as staff, condensing the week-long experience to fit as our cover story as well as adding an online exclusive concerning the origins of the trip back in 2008.

We think you will enjoy traveling along with the groups and hope it can be a rewarding adventure for you, too.

Enjoy, and let us know what you think.
