From dream to reality

I was a sophomore back in 1975 when Dr. Jimmy Carr’s dream for a baccalaureate nursing program became a reality at Harding with the enrollment of the very first students. Michele Warren had been hired to begin the program located in the renovated Olen Hendrix Building.

I had friends in the program who became Harding’s first nursing graduates in 1977, the same year Dr. Cathie Schultz took over the program, which she so capably led and grew for 37 years, including the move into impressive facilities in the Swaid Center in 2013.

Now with Dr. Susan Kehl at the helm, the program continues to flourish, providing Christian nurses as servants reaching into the world.

It is only fitting that the college Dr. Carr once dreamed of is now named for he and his wife, Stephanie. And it is a joy to share the successes of a few of the college’s recent graduates at the Mayo Clinic in this edition.
