Honor to whom honor

What a thrill it is to pay tribute on our cover to our 95-year-old chancellor emeritus, who has made serving this University his life’s mission.

Dr. Clifton L. Ganus is a legendary and beloved figure at Harding. His family fittingly honored him by establishing the Clifton L. Ganus Distinguished Chair of History and Political Science in March. At the signing ceremony, Ganus described his time with Harding as “a journey that has been great fun.”

Ganus always has been known as one of the biggest fans of Bison athletics, and this school year has given him lots to cheer about. A fixture at any type of Harding sporting event, he not only follows but knows the players. From welcoming the Lady Bisons on their return from the Final Four in Columbus, Ohio, to cheering on the amazing Great American Conference softball champions, he is always there lending his support. And he is loved for it.

In this issue, we also share his wife Louise’s, Leah Burks’ and Ann McLarty’s stories as first lady in their own words. All three ladies have beautifully served this University.

Enjoy, and let us know what you think.
