A year of scholarship and service

The Carr College of Nursing faculty, staff and students welcome you to the second issue of Outcomes. All of us seek joyous living while learning and growing as professional and advanced practice nurses. The licensing, certification and employment rates of our programs continue to demonstrate the graduates’ commitment to excellence and a faculty commitment to providing high-quality learning strategies, including an emphasis on interprofessional collaboration within the Center for Health Sciences.

In 2018, the primary new initiative of the college administration, faculty and staff is the offering of the accelerated second-degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, with clinical space for 40 students each fall and spring. Since the BSN curriculum has proven successful for our graduates, this accelerated format is used to draw additional students into the exceptional Harding experience.

Thank you for your generous support of the College of Nursing and the Center for Health Sciences. We are committed to working with excellence as a community of mission in the name of our Lord.

Susan D. Kehl, Ph.D., RN, CNE Dean and Associate Professor Carr College of Nursing

On behalf of the College of Pharmacy, I am pleased to offer this second edition of Outcomes magazine. I hope you enjoy this look into some exciting aspects of our program and the important relationship that we share with Harding’s Center for Health Sciences.

It’s hard to believe, but 2018 marked the 10th anniversary of the seating of our inaugural class of students! What once began as the dream of a few has now grown into a thriving network of students, faculty, staff, preceptors and alumni.

As you explore the pages that follow, I invite you to consider our missional approach to holistic learning. Whether it is sharing experiences with other health care providers in interprofessional simulations, developing affective skills and knowledge through a formalized co-curriculum, or choosing opportunities to serve others through medical mission experiences, Harding’s College of Pharmacy offers a student-centered learning environment that prepares our graduates for success.

Thank you for taking time to learn more about Harding University College of Pharmacy and the Center for Health Sciences. We appreciate your support of our students and programs. Most importantly we solicit your continued prayers for our success going forward.

Jeff Mercer, Pharm.D. Dean and Associate Professor College of Pharmacy

Thank you for taking time to read through our second magazine. We appreciate your interest in the exciting activities of our Center for Health Sciences. Each professional accrediting organization for our different disciplines has added Interprofessional Education to their standards. We have a very active IPE steering committee with representatives from each of the programs in our Center for Health Sciences and a new CHS librarian. They plan the many activities that you can read about in both this and the previous Outcomes issue.

The College of Allied Health faculty and students continue to provide volunteer services on both the local and international levels, which you can read about in the following pages. The culture of service is strong in our college!

I want to encourage all the CHS alumni to remember to send your accomplishments to the department from which you graduated. We want to make sure that you are recognized for your outstanding work. Most of all we ask you to send us recommendations for students and send up prayers that we can continue to produce competent, caring, compassionate professionals to work alongside you.

Beckie Weaver, Ph.D., CCC-SLP Dean and Professor College of Allied Health
