Faculty accomplishments

COLLEGE OF ALLIED HEALTH DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION SCIENCES AND DISORDERS Assistant Professor Melanie Meeker, Ph.D., presented two sessions at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention in Philadelphia in November 2016. She also presented at two University events: A Night at the Round Tables: An Interprofessional Education Event and A Walk in Their Shoes: Teaching Empathy to CSD Students. She is serving as vice president-elect for continuing education for the Arkansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Professor and Dean of the College of Allied Health Rebecca Weaver, M.C.D., was selected by the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association to serve on an ad hoc committee on language proficiency for clinicians. She and Meeker each received an Award for Continuing Education by the Continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT STUDIES PROGRAM Assistant professor Amanda Diles, M.S., was named a Journal of American Academy of Physician Assistants peer reviewer and presented at 2016 American Academy of Physician Assistants and the 2016 Arkansas Academy of Physician Assistants.

Assistant Professor Nicole Mount, M.S., presented at the 2016 Arkansas Academy of Physician Assistants Conference.

Program director Mike Murphy, M.D., was selected as chair of the PAEA Ethics Council. College of Pharmacy Assistant Professor Landry Kamdem Kamdem, Ph.D., and Murphy had two articles published: “Impact of UGT2B17 Gene Deletion on the Pharmacokinetics of 17-hydroexemestane in Healthy Volunteers” in Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and “Impact of OATP1B1 c.521T>C Single Nucleotide Polymorphism on the Pharmacokinetics of Exemestane in Healthy Postmenopausal Female Volunteers” in Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics.

CARR COLLEGE OF NURSING Associate Professor Greg Brooks, D.N.P., APRN, FNP-C, presented “Basic Suturing” and “Advanced Suturing” for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and “Interpreting Basic Chest Radiographs” and “Fractures in the Elderly” for the Arkansas State Nurses Association. Dean Susan Kehl, Ph.D., RN, CNE, was appointed peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission.

Assistant Professor Patty Smith, Ph.D., RN, CCRN-K, presented a poster titled “Investigating Organizational Experiences with Rapid Response Teams: Understanding Impact and Effectiveness” at the 13th International Conference on Medical Emergency Teams and Rapid Response Systems Conference. Her article “Organizational Perspectives on Rapid Response Team, Structure, Function, and Cost: A Qualitative Study” was published in Dimensions of Critical Care Nursing, and “Organizational Perspectives of Nurse Executives in 15 Hospitals on the Impact and Effectiveness of Rapid Response Teams” was published in The Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety. Smith’s dissertation is “Organizational experiences with rapid response teams” through the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

COLLEGE OF PHARMACY Assistant Professor Daniel Bailey joined the pharmacy practice department July 2017. Kaci Bohn, Ph.D., was promoted to associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences August 2017. Lana Gettman, Pharm.D., was promoted to associate professor of pharmacy practice August 2017. Sarah Griffin, Pharm.D., was promoted to assistant dean for academic affairs December 2016.

Assistant Professor Jim Nesbit, Ph.D., and peers published a manuscript “Measuring Pharmacy Student Attitudes Toward Prayer: The Student Prayer Attitude Scale (SPAS)” in the Christian Higher Education journal.

Associate Professor Rodney Richmond, M.S., served as chair of the Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy as the group worked with the Board of Pharmacy Specialties to move the Certified Geriatric Pharmacist credential under the BPS portfolio of pharmacist certifications. He held that appointment until Dec. 13, 2016, and after Jan. 1, 2017, he serves as the chair of the advisory committee to the Board of Pharmacy Specialties.

Director of Experiential Education Jeanie Smith, Pharm.D., and student Jessica Gall appeared on KATV ABC 7 in Little Rock promoting the HPV vaccine in February 2017.

Assistant Professor Rayanne Story, Pharm.D., was promoted to assistant dean for experiential education June 1, 2016. She was inducted into Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business in March 2017.

Associate Professor Mallory Turner, Pharm.D., joined the department of pharmacy practice in December 2016.

Assistant Professor Shawn Turner, Pharm.D., served as faculty mentor for fourth-year student Brady Clark through the Walmart Scholars Program at AACP in July 2017. Turner is president-elect for AR-ACCP.

Chair and Professor Scott Weston, Ph.D., joined the department of pharmaceutical sciences August 2017.

Associate Professor Kwame Yeboah, Ph.D., rejoined the department of pharmaceutical sciences faculty September 2017.
